Usable Insight – The Persuasion Cycle

I have recently been making presentations to organizations and companies where the single handout (and the single diagram from my book, “Just Listen” Discover the Secret to Getting Through to Absolutely Anyone, which is for a limited time being promoted at Amazon Kindle for $2.99) is The Persuasion Cycle below:

What this describes is that whenever you are trying to get through to anyone, your conversation with someone else should result in moving them from:

Resistant to Doing –> Listening –> Considering –> Willing to Do –> Doing –> Glad They Did –> Continuing to Do

Most people will agree that you will be more successful if your conversation follows those steps as opposed to skipping any of them.  Any my book, “Just Listen,” will certainly help you do that.

Now you can certainly hire me, but you don’t have to.  You don’t even have to buy, “Just Listen.”

All you have to do is meet with your teams and discuss best practices from them for moving a customer, client, employee, subordinate, fellow board member or even shareholder through all of those steps.

In the spirit of generosity that I am offering you, I only ask that you share some of those best practices in the comments sections so we can all become more successful.

Good luck.

Thank you for sharing Dr. Goulston,

Agreed, that listening is indeed that crucial first step. The question, the challenge then becomes how to create a receptive mind to sincerely and actively listen, when maybe distrust or behavioral issues are dominant within any sort of relationship?
