Obama’s Grade at 100? What About Our Grade?

The secret to Obama’s success and to the public’s slightly less success is connected to the adage: “He who has more to fear, has more to hide.”

It would appear that Obama is dedicated to actualizing a country — if not a world — “with liberty and justice for all.” He truly seems grounded in service and sacrifice (in the form of his daily and hourly, “duty bound” effort on all of our behalf). This may in part be due to a desire to honor his mom (and grandparents) by “paying it forward” her life of service and sacrifice to others, and especially Barack. He probably also picked up his incredible desire to understand deeply rather than “know” prematurely (sound like any other Presidents you know?). Because he doesn’t have a self-serving agenda to hide, he can walk through this world with less to fear.

We have done less well, because we have had the hidden agenda of caring more about our own well being (or in their cases, power) than about our fellow human being. We talk louder in words than in actions when it comes to service and sacrifice to others around us…especially those who can’t do anything for us.

Focusing on ourselves because we’re afraid is understandable and even acceptable, but focusing on ourselves because we just don’t care about others is shameful. And it’s that shame that we try to hide and causes us to do less for Obama’s selfless agenda.
